I bought a wrecked 01 and the cam cover was toast found a new one on ebay and pulled the old one off and the cams stayed in it they turn free in the cover but i know they have to go back in a certain way i did not pull the points cover off so i think it may be bolted on the cam with oil pump drive, i diden`t want to go any further till i got some info,any help please !

there are 'timing' marks on each cam. they need to be lined up with each other. the cams are numbered- put them in left to right in the numbered order.

put 1,3, and 4 in forst, then number 2 (the big one).

it sometimes is a pain to get them lined up right- the number 2 cam need to be lined up with the notch in the pinion gear too.

it's very easy- a harley manual shows how the cams look. go to the dealer if you don't have one and ask them to see the pic.
