The project bike dubbed “Ruby” will be built to commemorate the forty years of Street Chopper.
We are going to transform a basket case Harley-Davidson Shovelhead into a true “Raked and Flaked” chopper with influences taken heavily from past pages of Street Chopper. We don’t want to give away too many details, but let’s just say the bike’s name says a lot about how it will turn out.
Lending a hand in facilitating the bike build, Industry leaders and luminaries S&S, Custom Chrome, Baker Drivetrain, Flyrite Choppers, 3Guyz Customs, Hi-Bond Modified, Tech Cycle, Invader Wheels, Avon Tires, Stevenson’s Cycle, Performance Machine, Detroit Bros, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Biltwell Inc, Chopper Dave’s Casting Company, West Eagle M/C Products, Revtech, Lowbrow Customs, Nash Motorcycle Co, Chassis Design Company, Harpoon Custom Paint, Duane Ballard Custom Leather, Hippy Killer Garage, Delisle Products, Ranger Lifts, and of course Harley-Davidson will all be in the mix supporting the build.
We want our readers to join in on the fun as well, so to keep our you up to speed, we will be showing you how the bike is coming together piece by piece with a weekly build blog and an official progress thread located HERE
Once the bike is up and running, it will be debuted in Street Chopper’s 40th anniversary issue, which hits newsstands in October of 2009.

Motorvatin'

This is our `77 Shovelhead motor that is going to power Ruby. The top end was fried, but hey the cases are solid and have a title and current reg. We will be building it better, stronger and faster with the help of an S&S Cycle 93" stroker kit and a Joe Hunt Magneto amongst other things...

How about some CUSTOM CHROME Goodies?
Our friends at Custom Chrome sent us a box of goods that anyone would love on their doorstep.
IN the box were a Motor Factory 530 Chain and Masterlink, a complete Colony Shovelhead Fastener kit, a Rearview Mirror and a killer chromed Velocity Stack.
We have a few more chingaderas coming from Custom Chrome in the coming weeks, so keep an ear to the ground and an eye on this thread.

The FLYRITE Frame is Here!

Jason, Whitneye and the gang from Flyrite Choppers were kind enough to make us up a frame when they heard about the 40th bike build. This frame is based on the Scorcher, but has a few minor changes to it. We are going to chrome the it, so Jason took extra special care when building the frame so that it will have a mirror-like shine to it once plated.

BILTWELL seat & chrome mount makes the scene

This is the Stand-in Biltwell Inc. seat for the real-deal one that Duane Ballard Custom Leather is tappin' and toolin' for us.
The shape and curvature of Biltwells' solo seat was hand hammered by Chris Collins and made for the bigger butts of today without being oversized. The powdercoated pan is stamped from heavy gauge high-tensile steel and the custom-molded polyurethane padding is good for all that junk in the trunk.

TECH CYCLE Primary Chain Drive and Cyclone Clutch

From the mind of Paul Cox and the hands of Tech Cycle, the Primary Chain Drive is made with a chrome 530 chain and specially designed and machined components. The Cyclone Clutch has a massive surface area and a double-row bearing, so it will get the power from the 93-inch Shovel to the ground without fail.

The engine is at HI-BOND MODIFIED

The Shovel and boxes of S&S and Custom Chrome goods are now under the trusted care of Father Fury AKA Rico Fodrey of HI-BOND MODIFIED. He is going to bust it down, get it off to the polisher and then build that Coney to live on.
