I'm still running this chopper I built in early 1970's, was in Street Chopper mag in 1978, mono-shock swing arm, rolling on a carefully selected 250 car tire, way cheaper and last so much longer.  The tire is mounted on a 8 1/2-inch wide Centerline Pro Street Convo rim bolted to a fabricated hub.  If you have access to a shop like me, when I fabricated the frame, the engine location remained the same, but trans mount off set to clear the wider tire set up.  I fabricated an extension with bearing support, and oil return line, that moves the primary drive and transmission together out from the engine.  Then machine fabricated a splined shaft extension on the crank's output shaft allowing the existing primary belt drive acquired at the time to line up correctly.  An offset drive sprocket from the output shaft gained another fraction of an inch clearance.  If you choose to do this set up, you will find that all your factory drive components can be recylced along with good handling having tried wider tire set up, I reverted back to this tire width!  You can check it out, along with my other projects on www11.brinkster.com/electriccar > Student Activities > Gallery.
